Who We Are

Info-tabac: Revue pour un Canada sans fumée
(Magazine for a Smoke-Free Canada)

History
A non-profit organization founded in 1994, Info-tabac encourages public broadcasting of information on smoking and tobacco issues. Since autumn 1996, we have been publishing a French-language magazine which shares the name of our organization. Published five times a year, it is distributed free of charge to members of the tobacco control movement, health professionals, key stakeholders and the media. In October 2004, we moved from a black and white to a full colour format. The magazine is now sixteen pages long, with a press run of more than 6,500 copies.

Info-tabac.ca receives more than 100,000 visitors per year. All of our publications are available on the website in PDF and HTML formats, and our articles can be found via most search engines. Info-tabac acts as both the observer and disseminator of the latest developments in the fight against tobacco.

In spring 2010, we expanded and launched an English-language sister magazine, Tobacco Info, with more than 12,000 copies in circulation, plus online readership.

Our Mission: To Educate and to Support
By covering the most recent developments in the field of tobacco control, Tobacco Info and Info-tabac ensure that people interested in tobacco issues benefit from complete and factual information. Some 1,000 journalists and researchers receive our publications. The publications also regularly provide information for articles published by other media and act as a reference source for various news reports.

A Few of Our Accomplishments
- 90 issues of Info-tabac published over the past 15 years;
- 8 issues of Tobacco Info published since May 2010;
- Creation of an electronic index of our archives, photos and audiovisual recordings, which allows us to retrace the events that have marked the history of the tobacco control movement;
- Publication of “Des fumeurs bien informés” [Well-Informed Smokers] in 2003 and 2004. This 16-page booklet presents and explains the health warnings printed on cigarette packaging since 2000.
- Exhibitor at the 1st Conférence internationale francophone sur le contrôle du tabac (Montreal, September 15-18, 2002), the Journées annuelles de santé publique (Montreal, November 29 to December 2, 2004), the 4th National Conference on Tobacco OR Health (Ottawa, June 19-22, 2005), the 2nd Conférence internationale francophone sur le contrôle du tabac (Paris, September 18-21, 2005), the 3rd Ontario Tobacco Control Conference (Niagara Falls, December 4-6, 2006), the 6th National Conference on Tobacco or Health (Montreal, November 1-4, 2009) and the 7th National Conference on Tobacco or Health (Toronto, November 1-3, 2011).
- Series of five one-page fact-sheets on smoking, published in the fall of 2008 in four magazines for the greater public: Le lundi, 7 jours, Moi & Cie, and Star Inc., for a total of 265,000 copies per fact-sheet.
